I'm being treated privately for breast cancer. 24 hours after finishing my first chemotherapy I had to inject myself with pegfilgrastim against neutropenia. I started to have breathing difficulties, so I rang the emergency number of the private hospital. They advised me to call 999 to get to the nearest A&E as it was a symptom of anaphylaxis. As ambulance waiting times can be hours my husband drove me. When I checked in at the Royal Free at 21:30 on 16th November I was completely ignored and told that because I was talking I could obviously breathe. So they refused to send me to A&E and sent me to the Urgent Treatment Centre instead. I rang the emergency number of my hospital again asking what to do. They said that I needed to insist to be sent to A&E. But again I was refused and told I wasn't an emergency, full stop. After sitting in the UTC waiting room for one and a half hours gasping for air, a nurse came to take a blood test and do an ECG. I was told that a doctor would see me around half past midnight and was sent back to the packed and dirty waiting room. There was a water machine but no cups, and the machine in the hallway was out of order. By 2am my breathing started to ease and my husband and I left around 02:30 without ever seeing the promised doctor. All staff had gone on a long break. On checking out I was told I could pick up my blood test and ECG in the emergency reception. I was told that they are not ready and that I should come and pick them up the next day. Surely, the whole point of having a blood test was to check for anaphylaxis protein, as per NICE guidelines. I rang my emergency number again and they were absolutely shocked about the way I was treated at the NHS. The only communication I received from the Royal Free was a text message today asking for a feedback about my "experience". Needless to say that I didn't get any of the test results I asked to be emailed to me.

Great people, great care, but - like many other NHS services - their software and systems led to erratic communications.

Royal Free Hospital is like any other NHS hospital but I have been referred to this hospital most of the time and find very happy with their admin process and followed with appointments in timley manner. Recently since COIC_19 the appointments are delayed or changed. My Dermatology appointment has been cancelled more than 3 times.from March 22 to october 22 and i really hope this one not cancelled or resedulled. I have been to see my GP for my skin issue but unfortunetly is not able find cure and has tried to make further refer to Dermatology and still waiting as today (22.08.2022).

For some obscure reason my treatment with the same consultant was changed from Barnet to Hampstead. I was not consulted and hadn't realised I was in the waiting room of the wrong hospital (why didn't the person at reception, who logged me as having arrived, pick up on it either??). Two months later I attended the rescheduled appointment in Hampstead. Staff are doing what they can, but the place is a zoo, with the pharmacy being a nightmare, with a system involving two queues that aren't clear to patients whose doctor has sent the pharmacy a prescription being a low point.

Emergency department experience was poor. They were very quiet - only 2-3 patients - but just left me for hours on a trolley shivering with shock. Wouldn’t give me a blanket. Ignored me for hours. I had a head injury and needed glueing but that took 4 hours. I would understand if they were busy but staff outnumbered patients but just standing around chatting.

I have had appointments at the Royal Free, Hampstead in the past. It is impossible to get to this hospital by public transport from Enfield, my home. The journey to and from by mini cab costs £100. Meanwhile Chase Farm is two minutes from my home, and Barnet General, a single bus ride. So why is this not taken into account when arranging appointments? I recently had an over night stay at the Royal Free and considered the ward to be lacking in cleanliness, and found the extended wait for my discharge papers to be totally unacceptable. The Staff were pleasant and efficient.

Your patients are very lucky to have a sincere and good doctor. I am one of them and I always feel good about you. I wish we could have more doctors like you in our country, thank you, doctor. I have had a wonderful experience with a Nephrologist Dr. Ravi Baroo his a wonderful surgeon, and the staff was always helpful and kind. They ensured I had a smooth prep, surgery, and follow-up. I am so glad I chose Royal Free London and would highly recommend it to anyone with great experience as a first-timer. Nurse Nicola and Dr. Ravi Baroo were all very friendly and helpful. Dr. Baroo is a great doctor very understanding and listens to your concerns. He takes time with the patient to help them with their health issues! I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a specialist. Royal Free London is the best.
